Cell phone use in Southeast Asia?

I have a multi-band cell phone (a Motorola Razr) that works fine when I travel in Europe. I have international coverage through Cingular/AT&T. We will be taking a trip to Thailand, Viet Nam, Laos, Cambodia and Myanmar (Burma). It looks like there is cell phone coverage available at least in the cities.
My question is, will my phone be able to communicate with the local networks? (In the past, asking my cell phone provider has not always been helpful.)
Because we will be gone for some time, we need to be able to pick up voice mail and call back to the U.S. if there is a problem back home.

how can i book dhaka, bangladesh to yangon, burma with biman airways?

Travelling to Southeast Asia?

I don’t mind if it is a little dangerous, for that will just make it more exciting to me. I was originally thinking of Indonesia or Myanmar, but I really want to read some other suggestions. I would be open to non Asian countries as well, as long as they are tropical and very exotic!!
