Cell phone use in Southeast Asia?
Lisa B asked:
I have a multi-band cell phone (a Motorola Razr) that works fine when I travel in Europe. I have international coverage through Cingular/AT&T. We will be taking a trip to Thailand, Viet Nam, Laos, Cambodia and Myanmar (Burma). It looks like there is cell phone coverage available at least in the cities.
My question is, will my phone be able to communicate with the local networks? (In the past, asking my cell phone provider has not always been helpful.)
Because we will be gone for some time, we need to be able to pick up voice mail and call back to the U.S. if there is a problem back home.

should be fine if it’s tri band or GSM.
it will always depend on your provider if they do have strong ties with the local network provider. as for your phone no problem with it.
i am from the philippines and most people here next to their nokia handsets got a razr. if i were you to stay connected how about buying a prepaid sim to use if cingular are having problems?
here in our place, you can score one at around $1.50 for a globe sim card. calls to the US are $.25 per minute. and off peaks 7.50 pesos per minute (PHP45 = $1, please do the math.☻)
